Navy coordinates rescue of crew member from ship northeast of Terceira island

The Portuguese Navy coordinated on Thursday a medical rescue operation of a crew member from a fishing vessel northeast of Terceira island. The rescue took place approximately 285 nautical miles, equivalent to about 528 kilometres, from the coast of the Azorean island.

The crew member was on board the fishing vessel Playa Menduina, which sails under the Spanish flag. The operation was communicated through an official statement from the Portuguese Navy.

The man needed urgent medical assistance, and the search and rescue device was activated to ensure his transport to land where he could receive hospital care.
