Odair Moniz's family, who was killed in Cova da Moura, appealed the sentence that applied a suspended sentence to PSP officer Bruno Pinto. The appeal was filed with the Lisbon Court of Appeal and requests an effective prison term of 8 to 16 years. The family also demands that the officer be expelled from the Public Security Police.

The family members allege that the officers entered Cova da Moura in violation of the established procedures for operations in that neighborhood. The case involves alleged irregularities in how the police intervention was conducted at the location.

The Public Prosecutor's Office had requested the acquittal of the defendant, but the first instance court convicted Bruno Pinto to a suspended sentence. The officer's defense may also file an appeal against the conviction.

Odair Moniz was killed during a police operation in Cova da Moura, generating strong controversy over the circumstances of his death and the behavior of the officers involved in the intervention.
