The Câmara do Comércio e Indústria de Ponta Delgada – Business Association of São Miguel and Santa Maria Islands (CCIPD) today proposed the creation of a task-force to strengthen the control of medical leave in the Azores region.

The proposal comes given that the responsibilities in this matter are distributed across different entities, which according to CCIPD hinders more efficient management.

The business association from Ponta Delgada submitted this suggestion to the Regional Health Secretariat, hoping that the measure will allow for more rigorous monitoring of medical leave cases in the Azores.

The CCIPD's proposal comes within the scope of growing concern about the economic and social impact of prolonged or improper medical leave in the autonomous region.

MFF 2028-2034: Ensuring resources without taking away decision-making capacity from the ORs

The next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) of the European Union for 2028-2034 represents more than a budget negotiation; it is crucial for the Outermost Regions (ORs) that want to ensure resources without losing autonomy in the use of funds. The proposal from the European Commission presents two main problems: cuts to the Cohesion Fund and the centralization of fund management in Brussels and in national governments, which may limit the decision-making capacity of the ORs over the use of the amounts intended for them.
