Gastroenteritis in the Azores "above expected" but norovirus falls on three islands

The Azores Health Authority reported that until Wednesday there was an above-expected increase in acute gastroenteritis cases in the region. The entity acknowledged through a post on social media Facebook that there are more cases of vomiting and diarrhea than usual.

However, the authority highlighted that norovirus transmission is falling on three islands of the archipelago: Faial, Flores, and Terceira. This decrease in transmission on these islands represents a positive sign in controlling the outbreak.

The gastroenteritis outbreak has been affecting the autonomous region, causing a significant increase in cases that exceeded normal expectations for this time of year on the Azorean islands.
