The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) decided that the electricity tariff flag will remain yellow during the month of September. With this, consumers will face an additional cost of R$ 1.885 per 100 kWh consumed.
From January to April of this year, the tariff flag had remained green, reflecting favorable energy generation conditions. Starting in May, the yellow flag was activated and has remained in place for the following months, including September now.
According to Aneel, the maintenance of the additional cost in tariffs is related to less favorable energy generation conditions in the country. The dry season reduces the levels of hydroelectric reservoirs, requiring the activation of thermal power plants, which have higher operating costs.
The tariff flag system was adopted by Aneel in 2015 as a transparency tool, allowing consumers to monitor monthly energy generation conditions in the country.
