Inside the networks that steal luxury watches in Lisbon

Observador28 August 2026 at 21:01

Organized crime networks are dedicated to stealing luxury watches in Lisbon, operating in upscale areas of the city, such as Avenida da Liberdade. The assailants enter the country specifically to commit these crimes and disappear quickly after the attacks, making the authorities' work more difficult.

Before acting, the members of these networks carefully study their targets, gathering detailed information about potential victims and their habits. When necessary, the assailants do not hesitate to resort to the use of weapons to ensure the success of the robberies.

One of the individuals identified in these networks was a Venezuelan citizen who was ultimately sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in these crimes. The trial helped reveal part of how these internationally operating organizations work.

Authorities face significant challenges in combating these transnational networks, which exploit the wealthiest areas of the Portuguese capital to carry out these high-value crimes.
