Immigration. Constitutional approves return law

The judges of the Constitutional Court decided, unanimously, that the law that makes it easier to deport immigrants does not violate the Constitution. The decision was made regarding a law that facilitates the deportation of immigrants. The Constitutional Court thus validated the legislation in question. This law makes it easier to deport immigrants.

Livre respects Constitutional Court decision, but maintains criticism of asylum law

The Livre party announced that it respects the decision of the Constitutional Court that considered constitutional the norms of the diploma on granting asylum and return of foreigners, but reiterated its criticisms of the law. Deputy Paulo Muacho stated that the fact that the CC did not declare the law unconstitutional does not mean it is a good law, highlighting concerns about the possibility of detention and expulsion of migrant children. The party also believes there is room for political veto by the President of the Republic. The CC decision came after Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa requested preventive review of the decree approved by the Assembly of the Republic in July, which includes the extension of the temporary installation period to 180 days, possibility of separation of parents and children, and expulsion of minors.
