Chega threatens with motion of censure to the Government and tests PS and Carneiro

Chega admits moving forward with a motion of censure to the Government next Tuesday, September 1, if the prime minister does not remove Luís Neves from the position of Minister of Internal Administration. The parliamentary initiative was announced this Friday, August 28, in Lisbon, by the party led by André Ventura. The announcement comes after the controversy surrounding Luís Neves' permanence in the executive, which according to Chega removes credibility from the State apparatus.

Pedro Pinto, the parliamentary leader of Chega, defended the urgency of holding the executive accountable, emphasizing that the ministry has lost its moral authority before civil society. Pedro Pinto stated that the Government should present a motion of confidence, considering it is an Executive in which the Portuguese no longer trust.

Despite the public pressure, the opposition shows little willingness to make Chega's initiative viable. The Socialist Party rules out any immediate alignment with the parliamentary strategy of political rupture. Eurico Brilhante Dias, the parliamentary leader of the PS, noted that they are far from that scenario, clarifying that any decisions would be made by the party's bodies. The Liberal Initiative refused any maneuver that leads to a premature instability framework, defending governmental stability.

On the parliamentary left, the Portuguese Communist Party maintains strong criticism of the government's course, but avoids prior commitments with initiatives from other political forces. Paula Santos, the parliamentary leader of the PCP, pointed to the path of political combat in Parliament, considering that the action of the Government led by Luís Montenegro is disastrous for people's lives. The rejection of the motion appears as the most likely scenario in Parliament.

O Chega admite avançar com uma moção de censura ao Governo na próxima terça-feira, 01 de Setembro, caso o primeiro-ministro não retire Luís Neves do cargo de ministro da Administração Interna. A iniciativa parlamentar foi anunciada esta sexta-feira, 28 de Agosto, em Lisboa.
O anúncio da bancada liderada por André Ventura surge após a polémica que envolve a permanência de Luís Neves no executivo. O líder partidário considera que a situação retira credibilidade ao aparelho de Estado e exige uma resposta rápida do primeiro-ministro. Contudo, o chumbo da iniciativa afigura-se como o cenário mais provável no Parlamento.
Por seu lado, Pedro Pinto, líder parlamentar do Chega, defendeu a urgência de responsabilizar o executivo. O dirigente parlamentar sublinhou que a tutela perdeu a autoridade moral perante a sociedade civil.
«O Governo é que deveria apresentar uma moção de confiança porque é um Executivo no qual os portugueses já não confiam. Um Governo que continua a ter um ministro como Luís Neves tira toda a credibilidade quer ao Governo, quer à instituição Polícia Judiciária, quer às instituições em Portugal. É um governo que não é responsável», afirmou Pedro Pinto, líder parlamentar do Chega.

Oposição parlamentar rejeita aprovar moção de censura ao Governo

Apesar da pressão pública, a oposição mostra-se pouco disponível para viabilizar a iniciativa do Chega. O Partido Socialista afasta qualquer alinhamento imediato com a estratégia parlamentar de ruptura política.
O líder parlamentar do PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias, salientou a distância face à votação favorável do diploma. O dirigente esclareceu a posição formal da bancada socialista perante o desafio político.
«Estamos longe desse cenário. Não porque não possa ser equacionada, mas longe porque se vier a ser equacionada serão os órgãos do partido a tomar a decisão», afirmou Eurico Brilhante Dias, líder parlamentar do PS.
Por outro lado, a Iniciativa Liberal recusou qualquer manobra que conduza a um quadro de instabilidade prematura. O partido liberal recordou a legitimidade eleitoral saída das urnas nas últimas legislativas.
«Não podemos desconsiderar o que foram os votos dos portugueses. Devemos respeitar o voto dos portugueses, mas gostaríamos que tivessem votado mais na Iniciativa Liberal a ponto de formarmos Governo. O país precisa de estabilidade e se estivermos sempre a mudar de Governo não conseguimos mudar o país», afirmou Mário Amorim Lopes, líder parlamentar da Iniciativa Liberal.

A reacção da esquerda parlamentar ao executivo

No quadrante da esquerda parlamentar, o Partido Comunista Português mantém fortes críticas ao rumo governativo. Contudo, os comunistas evitam compromissos prévios com iniciativas de outras forças políticas.
Paula Santos, líder parlamentar do PCP, apontou o caminho do combate político no Parlamento. A dirigente defendeu o recurso aos mecanismos institucionais disponíveis para escrutinar a acção do primeiro-ministro.
«Esta política tem de ser derrotada porque não serve os interesses das populações. Todos os instrumentos da Assembleia da República são para ser utilizados. Há um conjunto de instrumentos que naturalmente não pomos de parte», afirmou Paula Santos, líder parlamentar do PCP.
Além disso, a porta-voz comunista classificou a acção do Governo liderado por Luís Montenegro como «desastrosa para a vida das pessoas». Por conseguinte, o desfecho da moção de censura ao Governo dependerá das votações em plenário nos primeiros dias de Setembro.
