Constitutional Tribunal approves law that facilitates immigrant deportation

The Constitutional Tribunal approved a law that facilitates the deportation of immigrants. This decision marks the first deliberation of preventive scrutiny since the new judges took office at Ratton Palace.

The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, had requested the preventive scrutiny of this immigration law. This is a mechanism that allows the head of State to submit legislation to the assessment of the Constitutional Tribunal before its promulgation.

The approval of this law by the Constitutional Tribunal represents a significant step in the country's migratory policy. The legislation now validated establishes more streamlined procedures for the deportation of immigrants in irregular situations.

This was the first decision taken by the Constitutional Tribunal after the inauguration of the new judges, signaling a new phase in the functioning of this institution. Ratton Palace, seat of the Tribunal, thus hosted the first deliberation of the new collective of judges.
