Brazil creates 58.5 thousand formal jobs in July; job generation drops 56% compared to same month in 2025

Brazil generated 58.5 thousand formal jobs in July of this year, according to the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The number represents a drop of 56.3% compared to the same period the previous year. This was the worst result for July months since 2020, when the current historical series by the agency began.

Year-to-date through July, 972.2 thousand formal jobs were created in the country. The data represents a drop of 21% compared to the same period in 2025, when 1.22 million registered positions were opened. The number is also the lowest result for job generation since 2020.

The data is part of the General Registry of Employed and Unemployed (Caged), which considers only registered workers and does not include informal workers. For this reason, Caged data is not comparable to the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Pnad), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
