In Ceará, the first day of free electoral advertising on TV exposed the main political rift resulting from the alliance configuration in the state. Brothers Cid Gomes (PDT) and Ciro Gomes (PDT/PSB) are competing for governor and senator positions in opposing coalitions, which led to direct confrontation between the advertising pieces of both groups.
Cid Gomes launched an indirect criticism against Ciro Gomes for switching parties and landing in an alliance with PL, the party of former President Jair Bolsonaro, arrested for attempted coup. The strategy sought to associate Ciro with a political position contrary to the family's clan tradition.
The slogan "We are on the right side" was used both by Cid and by Governor Elmano de Freitas (PT), who is seeking re-election. The expression leveraged Bolsonaro's rejection in polls in Ceará and aimed to link Ciro Gomes to the image of someone who changes political position as convenient.
In the advertising piece, Elmano stated that it is very important to have a side, reinforcing the discourse that his coalition represents the correct choice. The current governor sought to differentiate himself from the opposition by highlighting the values and alignments of his campaign in contrast to the adversaries.
