The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, promulgated this Friday the bill that extends the prohibition of smartphone use to the 3rd cycle in Portuguese schools. This decision represents an extension of the rules that previously applied only to the lower educational cycles.
With this promulgation, students up to the 9th grade will be prohibited from using mobile phones during school hours. Portuguese schools must implement these new rules from the date the bill comes into force.
The measure aims to reduce distractions in the school context and promote a more conducive learning environment. The debate on the use of electronic devices in schools has been a constant concern for Portuguese educational authorities.
