Rui Cristina highlights preventive detention after Oura run-over and reaffirms security priority

The court decreed preventive detention for the man indicted for six crimes in the run-over that occurred on Rua da Oura, in Albufeira, on Tuesday, August 25. The president of the Municipality of Albufeira, Rui Cristina, issued a statement dated August 28, highlighting the speed and firmness of justice in holding someone accountable for the incident, which he classified as an isolated but extremely serious act.
The man is indicted for the crimes of qualified attempted homicide, dangerous driving, resistance and coercion against a public official, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a legal license, and document forgery. Rui Cristina stated that everyone hopes justice will be done throughout the entire process, without adding more information about the status of the judicial process.
The mayor once again expressed deep solidarity with the victims and their families, guaranteeing that the municipality has been monitoring from the first moment the evolution of the health status of the injured. Rui Cristina also thanked the National Republican Guard for their role in managing the incident and detaining the suspect, as well as the rescue and health professionals for their readiness and professionalism.
Rui Cristina reaffirmed the Municipal Council's commitment to security, order and public tranquility, pointing out as measures adopted in recent months the reinforcement of police, the reduction of operating hours of establishments and the implementation of a noise control system. According to the mayor, these decisions seek to place security and quality of life above the interests of specific sectors.
Após o tribunal decretar prisão preventiva ao homem indiciado por seis crimes no atropelamento da Rua da Oura, o presidente da Câmara Municipal de Albufeira, Rui Cristina, reafirmou a segurança como prioridade do município e manifestou solidariedade às vítimas e às respetivas famílias.
Num comunicado de hoje (datado de 28 de agosto), o autarca destacou “a celeridade e a firmeza da justiça” na responsabilização pelo atropelamento ocorrido na terça-feira, 25 de agosto, que classificou como um “ato isolado, mas de extrema gravidade”, por ter atentado contra a vida humana e a segurança pública.
Homem indiciado por seis crimes
De acordo com a informação divulgada pelo presidente da Câmara de Albufeira, o homem encontra-se indiciado pelos crimes de homicídio qualificado na forma tentada, condução perigosa, resistência e coação sobre funcionário, condução de veículo sob o efeito do álcool, condução sem habilitação legal e falsificação de documentos.
“Todos esperamos que seja feita justiça ao longo de todo o processo”, afirmou Rui Cristina.
O autarca não acrescentou informações sobre o estado do processo judicial, além da aplicação da medida de coação de prisão preventiva.
Município diz acompanhar estado de saúde dos feridos
Rui Cristina voltou a manifestar “profunda solidariedade e conforto” às vítimas e às famílias, garantindo que o município tem acompanhado a evolução clínica dos feridos.
“Acompanhamos, desde o primeiro momento, a evolução do estado de saúde dos feridos, expressando a todos os mais sinceros votos de uma rápida e plena recuperação”, referiu.
O presidente da Câmara agradeceu também à Guarda Nacional Republicana pela atuação na gestão do incidente e na detenção do suspeito.
O reconhecimento foi igualmente dirigido aos profissionais do socorro e da saúde, cuja “prontidão, empenho e elevado profissionalismo na prestação de cuidados” foram, nas palavras do autarca, cruciais após o atropelamento.
Reforço policial e redução de horários entre as medidas apontadas
Rui Cristina reafirmou o compromisso da Câmara Municipal com “a segurança, a ordem e a tranquilidade pública em todo o concelho”, defendendo que a proteção dos residentes e dos visitantes continuará a ser uma prioridade.
O autarca apontou entre as medidas adotadas nos últimos meses o reforço policial, a redução dos horários de funcionamento dos estabelecimentos e a implementação de um sistema de controlo do ruído.
De acordo com o presidente da Câmara, estas decisões procuram colocar a segurança e a qualidade de vida acima dos “interesses, pressões e objetivos de setores específicos”.
“A Câmara Municipal de Albufeira continuará a priorizar a segurança pública e a desenvolver os projetos e ações necessários para devolver a Albufeira a qualidade de vida e turística que merece”, concluiu Rui Cristina.
