President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa promulgated the decree prohibiting the use of smartphones in schools until the 9th grade. This measure aims to restrict access to mobile phones by younger students in the school context.
The same decree was approved in Council of Ministers on July 30, the date on which the conditions for this ban in educational establishments were defined.
In addition to this ban, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also promulgated another decree approved at the same Council of Ministers meeting, related to exceptional and temporary measures to address the lack of teachers in schools.
This second decree also alters the regulation of scientific requirements demanded for hiring teachers, seeking to address the difficulties in attracting professionals to the teaching career.
