Vatican: Pope sends 'condolences' to the royal family and the people of Norway upon the death of King Harald V

Pope Leo XIV sent today his condolences to the royal family and the people of Norway for the death of King Harald V, in a message addressed to his successor, King Haakon VIII. The telegram was published in the Holy See Press Office.
In the message, the Pope stated he was "dismayed" upon learning of the passing and sent his "most sincere condolences" to the royal family and the entire Norwegian nation. The Pope valued the "many years of service" the monarch dedicated to the kingdom, hoping they "continue to bear fruit," and offered the assurance of his prayers "for the eternal rest of the late King." To the Norwegian people and all who mourn the loss, Leo XIV invoked "the blessings of consolation and peace of Almighty God."
King Harald V, Europe's longest-reigning monarch, died today at 6:35 AM, local time, at age 89, at Oslo's University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, as announced by the Royal Palace.

“Fiquei consternado ao tomar conhecimento do falecimento do seu pai, o Rei Harald V, e envio as minhas mais sinceras condolências a vossa majestade, aos membros da família real e a toda a nação”, lê-se no telegrama publicado na Sala de Imprensa da Santa Sé.
O Papa valorizou os “muitos anos de serviço” que o monarca dedicou ao reino, esperando que “continuem a dar frutos”, e ofereceu a garantia das suas orações “pelo descanso eterno do falecido rei”.
“Ao povo norueguês e todos os que choram a sua perda, invoco cordialmente as bênçãos de consolo e paz do Deus Todo-Poderoso”, escreveu.
O rei Harald V, monarca mais velho da Europa, morreu hoje às 6h35 (hora local), com 89 anos, no Hospital Universitário de Oslo, Rikshospitalet, na Noruega, anunciou o Palácio Real.
