The president of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, refused to enter into conflict with the Government, despite what he considered to be an alarming security situation in the Portuguese capital.
The statements came a day after Moedas met with the Minister of Internal Administration, indicating that the mayor dedicated part of his speech to the topic of security in the city.
According to data presented by the mayor, Lisbon's population grew by one hundred thousand people since 2010, representing a significant increase in the demand for security services in the city.
During the same period, Lisbon lost two thousand police officers, creating an imbalance between population growth and the human resources available to guarantee citizens' security.
