Sepe: teachers from Petrópolis go on strike alert

extra28 August 2026 at 16:22

The State Union of Education Professionals of Rio de Janeiro (Sepe-RJ) announced that teachers from the municipal network of Petrópolis went on strike alert, which is the last stage before a total strike of activities. The municipality has 197 educational units, between schools and daycare centers. The decision was made on Wednesday night (the 26th), during a general assembly held by education professionals.

Among the reasons that led to the decision is the constant delay in retired teachers' payments. According to Rose Silveira, from Sepe's coordination, the deposit of the payment, expected on the last day of the month, has been made always outside the agreed day, generating insecurity among the professionals.

The union leader also highlighted the issue of annual salary readjustment, which was not announced by Mayor Hingo Hammes. She explained that the category's base date is July, and what the mayor presented in meetings was the application of the IPCA (Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo / Broad Consumer Price Index) only from January 2027, which would mean 0% salary adjustment in 2026.
