A 47-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, August 27, on suspicion of drug trafficking in the municipality of Sines, the National Republican Guard announced. The arrest was carried out by military personnel from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Territorial Detachment of Santiago do Cacém, as part of an operation to combat drug trafficking.

The intervention came following information collected by the authorities indicating a rural area of Sines as a location with high attendance of illicit substance consumers. The military personnel carried out several police procedures at the location.

During the operation, the military identified an individual who adopted suspicious behavior upon noticing the presence of the Guard. A personal search was conducted which allowed the finding of narcotic substance and cash in his possession. In total, 368 doses of cocaine, 132 doses of heroin, 855 euros in cash and two mobile phones were seized.

The detainee remained at the GNR facilities until being brought before the Setúbal Judicial Court on Friday, August 28, for the first judicial interrogation and application of the respective precautionary measures.
