Presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante), writer and psychiatrist, participated in a debate promoted by O GLOBO, CBN and Valor, where he presented his positions on the topic of social media and technology. During the event, Cury stated he is against controlling social media and any type of prohibition of platforms like Discord, defending that these environments represent a space of freedom.
Despite positioning himself against censorship, Cury defended heavy taxation of big tech companies. The candidate went further and declared that he intends to take Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, to international court, without specifying however the details of how this would be carried out.
Cury also made an appeal to Brazilian parents, suggesting that families adopt a "digital fast" on weekends. He considered that millions of young people are "orphans of parents" who remain immersed in their cell phones, classifying the situation as a public health problem. The candidate defended that children up to 14 years old should not have any contact with social media.
