"Foreseeable tragedy": hydrobiologist warns of lack of warnings and risk of new floods in the Himalayas

Hydrobiologist Adriano Bordalo e Sá warned about the lack of warnings that may have contributed to the disaster in the Himalayan regions, classifying the situation as a "foreseeable tragedy." The specialist explained the mechanics of the phenomenon that led to the evacuation of around 500 tourists from the Nepalese side, in an isolated area.

The origin of the disaster is believed to be related to natural conditions in the Himalayan region, where flood phenomena can occur suddenly. Bordalo e Sá pointed out the causes of the incident and emphasized that the risks of new floods in the region remain high.

The specialist warned of the need for more effective warning systems in order to prevent similar situations in the future. The mass evacuation of tourists exposed existing vulnerabilities in emergency management in remote areas of the mountain range.
