The Azores Health Authority acknowledged that gastroenteritis cases in the region are above usual levels for this time of year, with more people presenting vomiting and diarrhea symptoms than expected.
Norovirus, identified as one of the causes of the outbreaks, is currently in a declining phase in the Azores, suggesting a possible stabilization of the situation.
The health authority highlighted that the vast majority of patients recover at home without needing hospital admission, as these are mostly mild cases.
