Álvaro Beijinha demands that part of the wealth generated in Sines be reinvested in the municipality

SAPO Notícias28 August 2026 at 13:43

The president of the Municipality of Sines, Álvaro Beijinha, defended in an opinion article published today in the newspaper Observador that part of the wealth generated in the municipality should be reinvested in the territory itself. The mayor warned that Portugal cannot grow at the expense of the territories, highlighting that Sines plays a strategic role in the national economic landscape. Beijinha's position arises in the context of a broader debate about the equitable distribution of the economic benefits generated by activity centers which, according to him, contribute to national wealth but do not always return development to the local communities that host them.
