Civil Protection Now Has Autonomy in Training Nurses in Manchester Telephone Triage

SAPO Notícias28 August 2026 at 14:22

Five nurses from the Regional Medical Emergency Service (SEMER) successfully completed the Manchester Telephone Triage Instructor Course. This training allows the Autonomous Region of Madeira to now have its own capacity to train and requalify professionals in this area, no longer depending on external entities for these training actions.

The SEMER nurses obtained the necessary certification to instruct colleagues and other health professionals in the Manchester Telephone Triage methodology, a system used to prioritize emergency care based on the severity of symptoms communicated by phone.

This achievement represents a milestone for the Civil Protection of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which now manages to guarantee the continuous training of its human resources autonomously, without the need to resort to external trainers or travel to the mainland.

Algarve no longer belongs to the Portuguese? Brits place region among the top 10 in Europe where tourism most exceeds residents

The Algarve ranks eighth among the European Union regions with the highest tourism intensity, according to Eurostat data for 2024 analyzed by the British newspaper The Independent. The Portuguese region appears alongside destinations such as the Greek islands, the Balearics, the Croatian coast and the Tyrolean Alps, with a high volume of tourist overnight stays compared to its resident population. The ranking is led by the South Aegean, in Greece, followed by the Ionian Islands and South Tyrol, in Italy. The analysis notes that the indicator measures tourism intensity and not a simultaneous count of tourists and residents, although it highlights the significant weight that tourism assumes in the Algarve throughout the year.
