The Roman Villa of Rabaçal, located in the municipality of Penela, is considered one of the most relevant testimonies of the Roman period in Portugal. The site is currently in the process of being classified as a National Monument, a process that aims to officially recognize and protect this archaeological heritage of exceptional importance.

The space houses a remarkable collection of mosaics depicting mythological and geometric scenes, providing a unique view of daily life and artistic culture during Roman rule in the region. The baths discovered on the site complement the archaeological collection, demonstrating the level of development and comfort achieved by the inhabitants of this villa.

The Regional Directorate of Culture of Centro has played a fundamental role in the enhancement and promotion of this archaeological site. Conservation and restoration interventions have been carried out, as well as tourism promotion initiatives that aim to make this heritage known to a wider public.

The villa reveals the importance that the region had during the Roman Empire, possibly functioning as a large rural property. Its study contributes to a better understanding of Roman occupation in the territory that today corresponds to Portugal, being a valuable resource for national historical and archaeological research.
