Italian authorities declare "red zone" around the Colosseum due to crime

Italian authorities declared a "red zone" in the vicinity of the Colosseum, in Rome, as a measure to strengthen security in the historic area of the Italian capital.

The decision was made due to the need to combat growing crime in the area surrounding the famous monument. The region has been characterized by degradation problems and illegal activities that have been increasing lately.

This security measure aims at more intense patrolling and tighter control in the delimited zone, intending to deter criminal behavior and protect both tourists and local residents who frequent the Colosseum area.

The declaration of "red zone" represents one of the responses of Italian authorities to the persistent security problem in tourist areas with high concentration of visitors, where petty crime has been a constant concern.
