Nepal Army rescues people trapped in tunnel after flooding with helicopter support; see video

The Nepal Army released footage of a rescue operation supported by helicopters on Friday, in which emergency teams removed survivors of the floods that hit the country on Wednesday from the tunnel of a hydroelectric plant in the Trishuli river valley. The torrent of water, mud, and debris caused severe destruction in the country.

Authorities confirmed the removal of at least 350 people from the site, having previously reported another 100 waiting to be rescued. The Nepal Army spokesperson, Raja Ram Basnet, told the French news agency AFP that some people remain trapped in the tunnel of the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric project.

Two helicopters were sent for the operation, which is considered challenging by authorities. According to Basnet, it is difficult even to locate the tunnel entrances, which complicates rescue efforts.

After the threat of a new flood, Nepal and China resumed rescue operations. The teams continue working to locate and rescue people still trapped at the site.
