The police in Indiana, United States, initiated an operation on Thursday to locate a lioness weighing approximately 136 kilograms and her cub, after reports that the animals were loose in the Hancock and Madison county area. The search lasted approximately four hours but was ended at night without the felines being found.
The first 911 call occurred around 10am, when a resident reported seeing from the window of his house, near the 10000 block of South County Road 50 West, an animal that appeared to be a lioness. According to the witness, the feline wore a blue collar and was walking in a southwest direction. A smaller cub was reportedly seen beside her.
Authorities used drones and ground teams in the search. According to Hancock County Sheriff John Beeman, the resident who made the call used binoculars to identify the animals. The operation was ended during the night without success in locating the felines.
