After announcing that he would be "retired" from elections, the national president of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), Aécio Neves, should backtrack on the decision to run for a Senate seat in Minas Gerais. The turnaround comes after the two names launched for the Senate on the ticket of gubernatorial candidate Alexandre Kalil, from PDT, decided to resign, opening space for the party member to run alone.
According to the electoral candidacy system, physician Marcelo Heringer, from PDT, and businessman from the Triangle region Gustavo Galassi, from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), officially communicated their respective resignations. After this decision, Gustavo Galassi recorded a video alongside Aécio asking him to run for the Senate.
The party member thanked the support and signaled the possibility of running for the election. At a press conference convened for this Friday, at 2 PM, the announcement is expected to be formalized. Aécio stated that he has been receiving stimuli and appeals to take on the candidacy, but that this would only be possible starting from the gesture of selflessness from the other candidates.
