The PSD-Madeira deputy, Carlos Fernandes, accused the JPP party of trying to reap political dividends from the tragedy in Venezuela and the suffering of the Madeiran and Portuguese-Venezuelan community. Fernandes argued that "in politics not everything goes", in a direct criticism of JPP's actions.
The parliamentarian's reaction comes after JPP associated the conclusion of the process regarding the 150,000 euros in support with a complaint made by the party. JPP claimed to have been responsible for pressuring the closure of the dossier.
Carlos Fernandes completely rejected that interpretation, assuring that the procedure was already underway before any complaint by JPP. The socialist emphasized that "these supports did not appear this week", suggesting that the process had been ongoing for longer.
The dispute arises in the context of support provided to the Madeiran community affected by the crisis in Venezuela, an issue that has generated political debate in the autonomous region of Madeira.
