The electric scooter operators expressed their availability to collaborate with municipalities in adapting rules for these vehicles, as happened in Lisbon three years ago. This previous cooperation demonstrates that it is possible to find regulatory solutions that work for all parties.
Bolt's micromobility director criticized the fact that the company had not been contacted by the local authorities that proceeded with the scooter ban. According to the executive, the company has always been available to dialogue and adapt its practices to local requirements.
The operators' position suggests that many of the implemented restrictions could have been avoided with greater prior communication between companies and municipalities. Scooters continue to be a controversial means of transport in several Portuguese cities, generating debates about safety and regulation.
