CBN News presented another edition of "50 Debates para o Brasil," a series that discusses relevant topics for the country's future and for the October elections. The program's proposal is to gather specialists with different positions on each topic to offer arguments that help listeners form their own opinions. In this edition, the program debated the so-called "blusinhas tax," the name by which the Import Tax charge on small-value purchases made on international platforms like Shein, Shopee, and AliExpress became known.
The federal 20% charge on shipments of up to US$50 had been created in 2024. In May of that year, however, Provisional Measure No. 1,357/2026 zeroed out the rate again for purchases made by individuals on websites registered in the Remessa Conforme Program. The change only affects the federal Import Tax, while state ICMS continues to be charged with rates that vary according to the destination state of the shipment. The provisional measure is in effect at the time of the program's edition.
