Santos Dumont Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, was closed for almost 7 hours after a small jet left the runway and ended up on the grass on Thursday afternoon. Due to the accident involving the small aircraft, 13 flights departing from the terminal this Friday (28) were cancelled. The cancelled flights had destinations to São Paulo, Campinas, Brasília, and Belo Horizonte, concentrated between 6am, when the terminal opens, and 8:20am. After the accident, Santos Dumont flights were redirected to Galeão Airport.
On Friday morning, movement through the terminal was quieter, but there were still passengers facing problems. Financial analyst Reinaldo Cruz had a flight scheduled for 6:30am, but his flight was rescheduled to 10:45am. As a result, he was unable to arrive in time to accompany his wife during a surgery scheduled for 10am. He stated that he would likely only arrive in São Paulo at the end of the procedure to pick her up. Besides the personal problem, Reinaldo also mentioned that he was traveling for work.
