The Italian insurer Unipol guaranteed that it will keep the headquarters of Banco Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) in the city of Siena if the public takeover bid is successful. The president of Unipol reinforced the symbolic value that the bank's headquarters represents for the institution.
The MPS brand, after the merger with BPER, will no longer use the denomination "di Siena", thus abandoning a historical reference to the Tuscan city. This change marks a significant transformation in the identity of the bank founded in Siena centuries ago.
Unipol's takeover bid for MPS represents an important move in the Italian banking sector, with implications for both the corporate structure and the legacy of the oldest continuously operating financial institution in the world.
