Tourists who ignored the prohibition to access the Mae Sa Waterfall area, in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, were dragged by a flash flood while trying to take selfies. The incident occurred on August 15. Images from the scene show the visitors stranded while the water rose rapidly around them, with violent currents dragging several tourists downstream.
The park guards later arrived to rescue the group and take them to safety. According to reports, the tourists suffered only minor scratches and received first aid at the scene.
Visitor Arttie Martin, in an interview with NY Post, stated that the incident happened in a matter of split seconds. He revealed that he was about to take off his shoes and walk to the middle of the river to follow other foreign tourists and take photos when the flood occurred.
