The roads of Madeira and Porto Santo recorded 62 accidents between August 21 and 27, resulting in 19 minor injuries. Despite the high number of incidents, the week passed without any record of fatalities or serious injuries, according to provisional data released by the PSP Regional Command.
Funchal was the municipality with the highest accident rate, accounting for practically one-third of all accidents, with 20 occurrences and five minor injuries. Santa Cruz ranked second with ten accidents and one minor injury, followed by Machico, where the number of accidents was counted but is not specified in the article.
The data was collected during the week of August 21 to 27, a period that coincides with the high tourism season in the region, which may explain the high volume of traffic on Madeira's roads. The PSP Regional Command made these figures available on a provisional basis.
