extra28 August 2026 at 11:48

The Santos Dumont Airport, located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, operates with at least 13 canceled flights this Friday morning. The situation is a consequence of an accident recorded Thursday afternoon, when a small aircraft went off the runway during landing.

The Embraer Phenom 100 jet, with registration PS-VEE, went off the runway end and stopped on the airport's grass area. The aircraft, manufactured in 2009 and with capacity for five passengers, was carrying only the pilot and one crew member. There were no injuries in the incident.

The airport's Emergency Plan was activated immediately after the accident, around 4:10 PM, and operations were suspended for aircraft removal. Fire Department teams provided support at the scene, and technicians are working at the location to normalize the situation.

Infraero, the agency responsible for airport administration, was contacted to comment on the case, but has not yet sent an official statement about the accident or about the schedule for resuming operations.
