Church of Mercy of Tavira is in the semi-finals of the New 7 Wonders

The Church of Mercy of Tavira was selected as one of the 49 semi-finalists of the New 7 Wonders contest. The Algarve church represents the district of Faro in this competition that aims to elect new landmarks of heritage interest.

The semi-final event is scheduled for September 5, taking place in the city of Sintra. This intermediate phase of the contest will reduce the number of candidates before the final.

The announcement of the Church of Mercy of Tavira's participation in this competition was reported by Barlavento, which identified this temple as one of the monuments with the potential to join the list of the new seven wonders.

New School Centre of Avis opens doors after investment exceeding €8M

The new School Centre of Avis opens its doors to receive students from September, with a total investment of approximately 8.93 million euros. The infrastructure, built from scratch on the space previously occupied by E.B. 2,3 Mestre de Avis, replaces a degraded building and offers better conditions of safety, comfort and accessibility. The transfer of students from the School Grouping of Avis will be done in stages, starting with Pre-School and 1st Cycle at the beginning of the school year, followed by the 2nd and 3rd Cycles in the second term. The project has co-funding from ERDF and aims to strengthen pedagogical quality and educational provision in the municipality.

10-year-old student without school just before classes start

A 10-year-old student was left without a school placement a few weeks before the start of the school year, in Portugal.
