Hundreds of pilgrims were not intimidated by the bad weather and climbed up to S. João d'Arga to fulfill the traditional pilgrimage. The faithful came on foot, by bicycle, motorbike, car or even on an organized tour.
Paula Alpuim, from Vila Fria, guaranteed that she came on foot from S. Lourenço da Montaria even with rain, stating that it was no more difficult than in previous years. Many pilgrims did not give up doing the three traditional laps around the monastery and the barracks were full of worshippers.
The celebration of the eucharist was scheduled for 4:30 PM, followed by the procession. For the afternoon, it was expected that the rain would ease.
The entertainment was supposed to continue during the night with performances by the brass bands near the monastery and traditional folk music with concertinas, which gather spontaneously.
Centenas de romeiros nao se deixaram intimidar pelo mau tempo e subiram a pé, de bicicleta, mota, carro ou até excursão até S. João d’Arga para cumprir a tradicional romaria. Muitos não abdicaram de dar as três voltas ao mosteiro e os quartéis também ficaram repletos de fiéis que assistiram à celebração da eucaristia. “Mesmo a chover, não podíamos deixar de vir ao S. João d’Arga. Viemos a pé desde S. Lourenço da Montaria e não custou mais do que noutros anos por estar a chover’, garantiu Paula Alpuim, de Vila Fria. Para esta tarde, prevê-se que a chuva dê tréguas. A celebração da eucaristia está marcada para as 16,30h, seguindo-se a procissão. A animação deverá continuar noite dentro com a actuação das bandas filarmónicas junto ao mosteiro e as rusgas com concertinas, que se juntam de forma espontânea.
