The Unified Movement of Retired Pensionists and Elderly (MURPI) accused the Government of preparing changes to the public Social Security system, following a report on the sector commissioned by the executive. The organization expressed opposition to the measures it believes are being prepared.
The main criticism from MURPI focuses on the way the accounts are presented in the government report. According to the movement, the document combines the contributory and non-contributory systems, as well as the Caixa Geral de Aposentações, in the same analysis, which the organization says distorts the financial reality of each of these systems.
According to data from the Institute of Financial Management cited by MURPI, Social Security recorded a balance in December 2025 that was not fully specified in the article, given that the text is incomplete. The movement uses this data to substantiate its position against possible changes to the system.
MURPI argues that the separate presentation of the accounts of the different systems is essential for a correct assessment of the financial sustainability of each, warning of the risks of a combined analysis that, according to the organization, may hide specific problems of each system.
