Évora installs 16 temporary classrooms at Chafariz d'El Rei School to ensure new school year

The Chafariz d'El Rei Basic School in Évora will start the new school year with 16 prefabricated modular classrooms, temporarily installed in the parking lot next to the Hospital do Patrocínio, behind the school premises. The temporary facilities are intended for 1st Cycle classrooms and will be connected by a circulation corridor. A passage has also been opened in the wall separating the modular units area from the school premises, creating a direct link between the two spaces.
The school has been closed since November 2025, after structural problems were identified in the building, a situation later worsened by bad weather. The modular solution is temporary and will remain in place while the necessary rehabilitation process for the school takes place.
The installation of the temporary structures results from coordination between the Municipality of Évora, the Gabriel Pereira School Grouping, and representatives of the Parents and Guardians Association. Councilor Carmen Carvalheira visited the installation works on Thursday, August 27, which are expected to be completed shortly.
The Évora City Council states that it is mobilizing available resources to accelerate the intervention, setting the goal that students may return to the building before the end of the 2026/2027 school year, with that date depending on the completion of the works and confirmation that all safety conditions have been met.

A Escola Básica do Chafariz d’El Rei, em Évora, vai iniciar o novo ano letivo com 16 monoblocos pré-fabricados, instalados temporariamente no parque de estacionamento junto ao Hospital do Patrocínio, nas traseiras do estabelecimento de ensino. A solução foi adotada enquanto se aguarda a reabilitação do edifício escolar, encerrado desde novembro devido a problemas estruturais.
Segundo a Câmara Municipal de Évora, os equipamentos provisórios destinam-se às salas de aula do 1.º Ciclo e estarão ligados através de um corredor de circulação, permitindo o acesso entre os diferentes espaços.
Foi também aberta uma passagem no muro que separa a zona onde estão a ser instalados os monoblocos das instalações escolares, criando uma ligação direta entre os dois espaços.
A vereadora da Câmara Municipal de Évora Carmen Carvalheira visitou na quinta-feira, 27 de agosto, os trabalhos de instalação das estruturas, que, de acordo com a autarquia, deverão ficar concluídos em breve.
Solução articulada com agrupamento e associação de pais
A instalação das estruturas provisórias resulta de uma articulação entre o Município de Évora, o Agrupamento de Escolas Gabriel Pereira e representantes da Associação de Pais e Encarregados de Educação.
O objetivo é assegurar a continuidade das atividades letivas durante a intervenção no edifício, mantendo os alunos próximos da escola e procurando reduzir as alterações às suas rotinas.
A utilização do parque de estacionamento junto ao Hospital do Patrocínio continuará a ser possível durante este período, embora fique sujeita a condicionamentos decorrentes da ocupação parcial do espaço e dos trabalhos em curso.
Escola está encerrada desde novembro
A Escola do Chafariz d’El Rei encontra-se encerrada desde novembro de 2025, depois de terem sido identificados problemas estruturais no edifício. De acordo com a informação divulgada pelo município, a situação foi posteriormente agravada pelas intempéries.
A solução através de monoblocos é temporária e deverá manter-se enquanto decorrer o processo necessário à reabilitação do estabelecimento de ensino.
A Câmara Municipal de Évora afirma estar a mobilizar os meios disponíveis para acelerar a intervenção, estabelecendo como objetivo criar condições para que os alunos possam regressar ao edifício antes do final do ano letivo 2026/2027.
Esse regresso ficará, contudo, dependente da conclusão dos trabalhos necessários e da confirmação de que estão reunidas todas as condições de segurança para a utilização do edifício.
