Chega/Açores proposes national and inter-island air fares for mainland tourists

Chega/Açores announced it will present a draft proposal for the creation of two distinct air fares for national tourists visiting the Azores. One fare would be for domestic flights between the mainland and the archipelago, and the other for inter-island travel within the region.

The measure aims to allow tourists coming from mainland Portugal to enjoy more fair prices on their visits to the autonomous region of the Azores. The party considers that current air ticket costs are an obstacle to tourism in the region.

The announcement was made by the parliamentary group of Chega/Açores, which intends to boost the Azorean tourism sector through air accessibility policies. The draft proposal will be formally presented as a party initiative in the regional assembly.

The proposal comes in a context where air connectivity is considered fundamental for the tourism development of the Azores, an archipelago composed of nine islands where air transport is essential for travel between islands.
