Serbia to bury Ratko Mladić, the "Butcher of Bosnia", with State honors

Ratko Mladić, the Bosnian Serb former general and war criminal known as the "Butcher of Bosnia," died on Thursday in The Hague. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia had sentenced Mladić to life in prison for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Bosnian War (1992-1995).

The Serbian government decided that Mladić will be buried with state honors. Justice Minister Nenad Vujić announced the decision and stated that the protocols for such cases are well known and will be followed.

Vujić defended the measure by stating that "the general was a general" and that the applicable protocols in such cases are well established. The decision sparked international controversy, as Mladić was held responsible for atrocities that included the Srebrenica massacre, where more than 8,000 Bosnian men and boys were killed.
