The pilgrimage of São João d'Arga is a tradition that takes place annually in the Serra d'Arga, in Minho. After climbing the mountain, pilgrims and visitors follow a traditional ritual that includes walking three times around the chapel, completing an important part of the devotion.
This ritual is accompanied by the offering of two alms: one designated "to the saint" and another "to the devil," in a practice that mixes religious and folk elements characteristic of Minho traditions.
The night of June 28 to 29 attracts thousands of people to this pilgrimage, transforming the mountain into a place of great movement and popular celebration.
The celebration includes traditional cultural manifestations such as concertina, challenge singing, chiripiti and green wine, elements that characterize this festival and keep it alive as one of the most emblematic pilgrimages of the Minho region.
