The consumer confidence indicator decreased in August, interrupting a sequence of three consecutive monthly increases. This decline represents a reversal of the positive trend that had been observed in previous months.
Conversely, the economic climate indicator recovered in August, offsetting the drop recorded in the month of July. This indicator is calculated based on surveys conducted to businesses.
Both data were released today by the National Statistics Institute, the body responsible for producing official statistics in Portugal.
The two indicators thus show opposite trends: while consumers are showing less confidence, the economic environment assessed by businesses shows a recovery.
