Away from the frantic pace of television, Lúcia Veríssimo found on Fazenda Independência, in Chiador, in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, a refuge to live in contact with nature. The property became her permanent residence during the Covid-19 pandemic and started to reflect her life choices, with organic production and environmental preservation.
Vegetarian, the actress established that no animal on the property would be raised for slaughter. Cows, horses, goats and birds remain on the farm throughout their lives, without exception. Even when animals stop producing milk or eggs, they are not sold.
Instead, the animals go to areas she calls "shelters," where they receive food, veterinary care and shelter until the end of their lives. Lúcia herself stated that the animals "die of old age" in these spaces dedicated to their well-being.
The property also follows strict guidelines for guests, who find limited food options given the farm's focus on ethical animal treatment and a nature-connected lifestyle.
