Guarda: League of the Servants of Jesus holds annual celebration

The League of the Servants of Jesus will hold its annual celebration on August 28 and 29 in Guarda, consisting of a moment of prayer, communion, and thanksgiving that will bring together members, collaborators, benefactors, and friends of the institution. The celebrations begin on Friday, August 28, at 9:00 PM, with the Thanksgiving Eucharist at the Cathedral of Guarda, followed by a period of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until 11:00 PM, which will continue throughout the night in the different communities of the League.
On August 29, the gathering continues at Outeiro de São Miguel, with the welcoming of participants at 10:45 AM and the celebration of the Eucharist presided by D. José Pereira, bishop of Guarda, at 11:00 AM. The program also includes a fellowship lunch at 1:00 PM and a Solemn Session in the auditorium at 3:00 PM.
The League of the Servants of Jesus was founded by D. João de Oliveira Matos, former auxiliary bishop of Guarda, after a retreat in Lajeosa do Mondego that took place between February 11 and 17, 1924. It is a Public Association of the Faithful, made up of men, women, married, single, and laypeople of different social conditions.
Over several decades, the League has carried out a mission of great importance in the Diocese of Guarda, through support for the education and formation of children and young people, the welcoming of minors at risk, the response to various situations of social fragility, the accompaniment and care of the elderly, and collaboration with various diocesan services. The institution is present in several parishes of the Diocese of Guarda and maintains communities in localities such as Guarda, Guarda-Gare, Outeiro de São Miguel, Rochoso, Cerdeira do Côa, Ruvina, Celorico da Beira, Manteigas, Fundão, Covilhã, Orca, Fátima, and Figueira da Foz.

Guarda, 28 ago 2026 (Ecclesia) – A Liga dos Servos de Jesus vai realizar a sua tradicional festa anual nos dias 28 e 29 de agosto, na Guarda, consistindo num momento de oração, comunhão e ação de graças que vai reunir membros, colaboradores, benfeitores e amigos da instituição.
“As celebrações iniciam-se na sexta-feira, 28 de agosto, às 21h00, com a Eucaristia de Ação de Graças na Sé Catedral da Guarda”, explica a Diocese da Guarda, na sua página online.
O programa segue com um período de Adoração ao Santíssimo Sacramento até às 23h00, hora a partir da qual a adoração continuará nas diferentes comunidades da Liga, prolongando-se durante toda a noite até às 08h de sábado.
No dia 29 de agosto, o encontro continua no Outeiro de São Miguel, com o acolhimento dos participantes a ter início às 10h45; o bispo da Guarda, D. José Pereira, preside à celebração da Eucaristia pelas 11h.
As celebrações vão incluir também um almoço de confraternização, agendado para começar às 13h e terminar às 15h00 com a Sessão Solene, no auditório.
A Diocese da Guarda destaca que “ao longo de já várias décadas, a Liga dos Servos de Jesus tem desempenhado uma missão de grande importância na vida da Diocese e da Igreja, através do apoio à educação e formação de crianças e jovens, do acolhimento de menores em situação de risco, da resposta a diversas situações de fragilidade social, do acompanhamento e cuidado dos idosos e da colaboração com vários serviços diocesanos”.
“O seu trabalho discreto e perseverante constitui um testemunho concreto da caridade cristã, colocando a pessoa humana no centro da sua missão”, acrescenta.
A Liga dos Servos de Jesus foi fundada por D. João de Oliveira Matos, antigo bispo auxiliar da Guarda, após um retiro na Lajeosa do Mondego que decorreu entre os dias 11 a 17 de fevereiro de 1924.
É uma Associação Pública de Fiéis, constituída por homens, mulheres, casados, solteiros e leigos de diferentes condições sociais.
A instituição procura viver e promover a fé cristã através da oração, do apostolado, da ação litúrgica, da catequese, da visita aos doentes e da animação de grupos, entre outras atividades.
A Liga está presente em várias paróquias da Diocese da Guarda e mantém comunidades em diferentes localidades, incluindo Guarda, Guarda-Gare, Outeiro de São Miguel, Rochoso, Cerdeira do Côa, Ruvina, Celorico da Beira, Manteigas, Fundão, Covilhã e Orca, tendo também presença em Fátima, Figueira da Foz.
