Maria Mariana, 53 years old and mother of four children, launches this Monday a new edition of the book "Confissões de adolescente", published by Maquinaria. The original work, which began as a theatrical play in the early 1990s, was inspired by her real diaries and became a landmark in addressing with honesty topics such as sex, drugs, and abortion, without moralism, at a time when there were no works that addressed these subjects directly for young audiences.
The success of the theatrical production was such that it attracted crowds of young people to theaters, and the story was later turned into a book and television series, revealing a demand that had been neglected by productions aimed at this audience.
With the desire to promote dialogue between parents and children, Maria Mariana revisited the work three decades later. She observes that, despite the profound changes that have occurred since then, the feeling is that society is only now emerging from deep waters, discovering that some people are drowning.
The observation is reinforced by her recent training in Psychology, which made the author begin to perceive young people as very vulnerable and warn about the tendency to pathologize adolescent behaviors, a theme that permeates the new edition of the publication.
