Wildfires in Spain have consumed more than 297,000 hectares so far this year, representing 48.1% of the total burned area across the entire European Union. The data was released this Friday by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

During the analyzed period, 43 large fires were recorded in the country. The figures place Spain as the most affected European country by wildfires in terms of burned surface area this year.

MITECO is the body responsible for providing these statistics on the wildfire situation in Spain, monitoring the extent of the damage caused by these environmental events.
