Nepalese authorities are on maximum alert due to the risk of a new flood. The situation is related to a lake that formed after a glacier collapse, whose accumulated water represents a potential threat to downstream areas.
The glacial lake is located at approximately 2,950 meters altitude, placing it almost a thousand meters above the Gyirong pass. This large elevation difference significantly increases the destructive potential of any eventual water discharge.
Authorities warned that a sudden release of the accumulated water volume could trigger new floods or mudslides in downstream areas. This possibility keeps local communities on constant vigilance.
