King Harald V of Norway died aged 89, the Norwegian Royal Palace announced. The monarch was hospitalized due to complications related to a blood disease and died peacefully at the National Hospital (Rikshospitalet) in Oslo on Friday, August 28, at 06:35 (05:35 in Lisbon).

Harald V was the longest-reigning monarch in Europe and suffered from hemolytic anemia, a blood disease that causes abnormally rapid destruction of red blood cells. He had been hospitalized for about a week at the National Hospital of Oslo.


O rei Haroldo V da Noruega, que se encontrava hospitalizado devido a complicações relacionadas com uma doença sanguínea, morreu aos 89 anos, anunciou hoje o Palácio Real norueguês.

“É com profunda tristeza que anunciamos o falecimento de Sua Majestade o Rei Harald. O Rei Harald faleceu pacificamente no Hospital Nacional [Rikshospitalet] na sexta-feira, 28 de agosto, às 06:35” (05:35 em Lisboa, disse o palácio em comunicado.

Decano dos monarcas da Europa, Haroldo V sofria de anemia hemolítica, uma doença do sangue que provoca a destruição anormalmente rápida dos glóbulos vermelhos, e estava internado há cerca de uma semana no Hospital Nacional de Oslo.
