King Harald V of Norway died aged 89, the Norwegian Royal Palace announced. The monarch was hospitalized due to complications related to a blood disease and died peacefully at the National Hospital (Rikshospitalet) in Oslo on Friday, August 28, at 06:35 (05:35 in Lisbon).

Harald V was the longest-reigning monarch in Europe and suffered from hemolytic anemia, a blood disease that causes abnormally rapid destruction of red blood cells. He had been hospitalized for about a week at the National Hospital of Oslo.
